The fifth of nine children and a father of three, Pastor Moore is a native of Sylvania, Georgia. In the 1970's, he moved to Philadelphia, where he graduated from Manna Bible Institute. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Urban Ministry Management from Geneva College at Center for Urban Theological Studies. In his leisure time, he enjoys fishing, gardening, bowling, and spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Reverend James Moore, Sr has been a purposeful and devoted pastor serving the Lord Jesus Christ, the congregation, and the community for over 37 years. Called to Pastor at Second Mount Zion Baptist Church in 1986, Pastor Moore has been a dynamic preacher, teacher, and pastor. He has demonstrated a constant, steady love for the congregation and the community, no matter what the need. Most recently as Founder and organizer of the Triangle CDC, which has a fifteen million dollars low-income senior housing development currently under construction, in the Mantua section of Philadelphia, where the church is located. He has proven himself to be a man of his word serving with dedication to the community and his congregation.
Pastor Moore is a powerful and profoundly biblical preacher, highly regarded in the leadership community. Widely accredited and often invited to preach in cities throughout the United States and on the continent of Africa. For example, he has preached in Johannesburg, South Africa and in Freetown, Sierra Leone. Pastor Moore currently serves as Treasurer of the Foreign Mission Board and on the Executive Committee of the National Baptist Convention, USA, Inc. He is a former President of Black Clergy of Philadelphia and Vicinity, and the Baptist Pastors and Ministers Conference of Philadelphia and Vicinity. Previously appointed to serve as a board member of the Pennsylvania Minority Business Development Authority by former Governor Edward G. Rendell and is a member of the Pennsylvania Baptist State Convention.
